ST-99 Organically Modified Clay
This organoclay is designed to remove TOC's from water, particularly humic and fulvic acids. These acids are very large molecules which blind activated carbon. ST-99 has the highest capacity of commercial sorbents for the removal of tannic and humic compounds which act as precursors for trihalomethane (THM) formation.

ST-99 media can effectively remove 80% or more of these contaminants based on actual lab and field tests. The brown and yellow color associated with humic and fulvic acids is significantly reduced, particularly when ST-99 is used ahead of activated carbon.
The introduction of chlorine into waters containing humic and fulvic substances tends to break down these large molecules and form TUM precursors. It is recommended that ST-99 media be used ahead of the chlorination treatment process for best removal of these contaminants.
